Peroxide

Peroxides are a group of chemical compounds in which two oxygen atoms are connected by a covalent bond. The O-O bond in the structure of this group of peroxides is called the peroxide group, which has an oxidation number of -1 unlike the oxygen ion (2 negative charge). This has caused these compounds to be extremely unstable and decompose in the vicinity of heat and produce active radicals including oxygen groups and quickly enter into chemical reactions.

Silicone Peroxides

In general, peroxides are divided into the following 4 categories:

  • Peroxide acids: derivatives of peroxy acids, for example, peracetic acid,
  • Primary group peroxides: compounds with the structure E-O-O-E in which E are the main group elements.
  • Metal peroxide: The main element is a metal, for example, zinc peroxide (ZnO2).
  • Organic peroxides: The main element is carbon and its basic structure is C-O-O-C or C-O-O-H, for example tertiary butyl hydroperoxide.

Application of Silicon Peroxide in Different Industries

  1. As a catalyst in manufacturing industries, olefins
  2. As a crosslinker agent in the synthesis of unsaturated polyesters in the process of propylene production and modification
  3. Cure factor in ethylene vinyl acetate polymerization
  4. Sulfonation of sulfur in the oil and gas industry for the purpose of oxidative desulfurization
  5. Antibacterial bleach and disinfectant
